Hanergy Provides PV Systems for Tesla's Charging Stations in China
Beijing- April 22, 2014, Tesla Motors Inc. delivered its first batch of electric sedans to customers in China. At its delivery ceremony in Beijing, two photovoltaic system charging stations, on the side of the Tesla electric cars, caught audience's attention. These customized photovoltaic systems are designed and manufactured by Hanergy, specifically to meet Tesla's needs. Tesla chooses the thin-film PV systems for its first Chinese electric vehicle charging station system. Hanergy will deliver two different solar-powered charging station systems. The installation of the first phase has just completed. At the same time, Hanergy will provide fixed PV system solutions to build Tesla's first super-charging station in China, located in Motor City in JiaDing District of Shanghai.
Yesterday, in his first CCTV "Dialogue" TV interview, Tesla's founder Elon Musk indicated that China is a very important future market for Tesla. Tesla will invest heavily in China, including the construction of charging infrastructure. It is also planning to build seven super-charging networks, providing 24-hour uninterrupted solar charging. The first few charging facilities will be built in Beijing and Shanghai.
Tesla's PV charging station system provided by Hanergy functions as a traditional carport. In addition, it converts sunlight into clean electricity in a limited space and charges electric vehicles through energy storage system. Hanergy Solar's most advanced CIGS(Copper indium gallium selenide) technology will be used. Most recently, its maximum efficiency reached 20.5%. The technology has advantages in light weight, high flexibility and efficiency in low insolation conditions and improved packaging methods. More importantly, no high cost racking system is required. Its movability and modern appearance integrate perfectly with urban architectures. Using the most advanced thin film PV technology, the system provides convenient charging services to electric car drivers and maximizes the the use of clean energy.

Elon Musk emphasized during the interview that solar energy and storage system will be the charging power for Tesla's charging stations in China. It reduces the environmental pollution caused by coal generated energy. The charging station operates 24 hours. It charges battery during the day time and stores energy during the night. Under the pressure from surging gasoline price and the strict emission standards, alternative energy powered vehicles, especially electric cars has become the new strategic development industry worldwide. In China, coal is still the main power generator. Electric vehicles industry is hindered by the traditional power supply pattern. The partnership between Tesla and Hanergy Solar will be the exemplar of the innovative corporation between electric vehicles and alternative energy technology. It encourages the auto industry breaking from the traditional power supply status quo, reduces the dependence on the traditional fossil energy, and mitigates infrastructure shortage.
